Hi! I’m J. Jade Jordan. If you want to contact me, click Here. (I hope to start a newsletter soon.)
I’m a writer and, as most writers I read about seem to claim, I have always written. Mostly, though, not for others. All through childhood, into adolescence, and on into adulthood, I wrote and still write sporadic journals, rants when angry, dirges when sad and poetry (or connections, as I call them) when heartbroken. They’d no doubt be songs, if I played an instrument. I always seem to need a pencil or pen and paper nearby to jot down whatever goes through my head that seems worthy of keeping.
Now, my pencil and paper have been turned to writing novels. Historical novels set in the Regency era in England. From the moment I picked up my first one, I’ve been hooked. They catapult me back into an era of dashing heroes (I work hard to make my heroes brave and courageous, yet with a lot of heart) and feisty heroines. (By all accounts, the era was not conducive to women being fearless and ambitious, but that is my preference and I hope mine will be strong and spirited!).
In the Regency, rigid rules governed what women could and could not do. This creates great potential for intriguing stories where heroines become embroiled in situations that can bring about their social downfall, and they have to be clever to escape that shocking fate. Life in this era is a hazardous business for my characters! [See old soldier-cum-butler, Foster’s Blog about his mistress’s first sojourn to London and the dangerous mishaps that ensue, and how they threaten not only her ruin but her very life.]
While I enjoy immersing myself in that bygone era devising tales to entertain, I am always relieved to inhabit this century, where I am not similarly hampered by such restrictions. This way, I get the best of both worlds!
I hope you enjoy my debut story, The Viscount’s Counterfeit Wife, about Tally and Reed. Although it is a stand-alone book, it introduces my upcoming series “The Brotherhood of Spares.”
